In a corruption case, the Vigilance department has arrested an accountant posted at the block office in Almora district for taking a bribe on Wednesday. The accused, Har Singh Bisht alias Harish Singh Bisht, was demanding money from the complainant to release the FDR related to Rs three lakh toilet construction tender.
Acting on the complaint, the Vigilance team from Haldwani carried out a trap operation on Wednesday. During the operation, the accused was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 15,000 as a bribe inside the block office in Lamgada.
Police officials said that the accused had been pressuring the complainant to pay money in exchange for releasing the funds.
The accused has been taken into custody, and further legal action is being carried out.
