The vigilance team on Thursday conducted raids on the properties of former cabinet minister and senior leader of Congress party Harak Singh Rawat for reportedly purchasing personal assets with government funds. The teams purportedly raided an institute in the Shankarpur area that reportedly belongs to Rawat’s son and a petrol pump in the Chidderwala area of Dehradun.
The director of the Vigilance, V Murugesan said that the raids were conducted in the said places in connection with the illegal felling of trees in the Corbett Tiger Reserve. He said, “A case was registered in the Haldwani zone under which a senior forest officer was also arrested last year. During the investigation of that case, it came to light that some assets like generators were bought with the government’s fund but were reportedly present in private properties.
Taking cognisance of this, vigilance conducted raids on some locations.” However, Murugesan did not clarify whether the said properties belong to the former cabinet minister. He said that the teams conducted raids but it cannot be confirmed whether the said properties belong to Rawat without proper investigation. Murugesan said that the department cannot reveal much about the case during the ongoing investigation. Besides this, Rawat along with his daughter-in-law Anukriti Gusain also reached the institute located in Shankarpur area of Dehradun where vigilance also reportedly questioned them.
