Two chemist shops sealed in Dehradun for drug law violations

Authorities sealed two chemist shops in Dehradun on Saturday after finding serious violations of drug safety regulations during a joint inspection. The action was part of the Safe Drugs Safe Life campaign, carried out under the direction of the Uttarakhand State Legal Services Authority (USLSA) and Dehradun district judge and chairman of the Dehradun District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Prem Singh Khimal.

The secretary of DLSA Seema Dungarakoti, along with Food and Drug Administration officials including drug inspectors, inspected several chemist shops in the Jakhan, Dilaram Chowk, Rajpur Road and Clock Tower areas. During the visit, officials found that Bali Chemist and Apollo Pharmacy, both located on Rajpur Road in Jakhan, had issues related to the maintenance of purchase and sale registers and improper drug storage.

The team issued instructions to correct these deficiencies. Besides this, the team also found serious irregularities Sadbhaavna Pharmacy and Clinic in Jakhan and Life Care Pharmacy at Clock Tower and asked to close them immediately. Shiva Medical in Jakhan and Goodness Pharmacy on Rajpur Road were also instructed to maintain hygiene, install temperature displays on refrigerators and refrain from selling medicines without valid prescriptions.

The officials informed that the DLSA conducts such inspections with the FDA every month in Dehradun. They stated that the team usually warn chemist shops with minor irregularities while those with serious issues face restrictions on medicine sales or closure.
