PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan received 2,289 complaints from June 1 to June 19. Notably, residents lodged the complaints through UJS helplines 1800-180-4100 and 1916, which remain operational to assist consumers facing water supply issues. As per the UJS data, out of these complaints, 1,340 have already been resolved by June 19.
Additionally “no getting water” accounted for the maximum number of complaints- 1,631- reflecting the peak summer stress on schemes across the State. Apart from this, there were 218 complaints related to pipeline leakage, 165 concerning sewer line blockage/overflow, 92 for contaminated water, 74 classified as other complaints, 56 reporting no water in the whole area, 47 regarding low pressure water supply and six about sewer chambers being broken.

Commenting on these complaints, the secretary (Appraisal) stated that the maximum number of observed complaints were about not getting water. “This issue arises due to several reasons, including power outages during supply times and pump breakdowns,” he said, adding that UJS ensures alternative supply through water tankers in areas where water supply is affected. “We also strive to resolve issues immediately or within the stipulated time frame,” he further said.

Notably, each season presents challenges that affect water supply. During the monsoon, issues such as cloudbursts, landslides and heavy rainfall affect the water supply schemes. Similarly, the summer season also poses challenges. Semwal had earlier indicated that complaints increase during summer due to heightened water demand, reduced supply from sources and occasional power outages impacting water distribution.

“As soon as complaints are registered via the toll-free number, officials concerned are notified, and directed to address the issues promptly. Residents across the State are free to seek assistance concerning water supply problems or register their complaints through these helplines,” he stated.
