IYD: Mass practice held across Nainital

Mass yoga programmes marked the International Yoga Day in Nainital with the largest congregation of yoga enthusiasts held in Lok Bhavan presided over by the Governor Lt Gen Gurmeet Singh (retd). Among others present on the occasion was the joint director of Information, Nitin Upadhyay.  

A yoga programme was organised at the DSA grounds, too. On this occasion, MP Ajay Bhatt and MLA Sarita Arya highlighted the importance of yoga, saying that thanks to the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, yoga has gained global recognition.

Naval NCC cadets from the DSB campus of Kumaun University organised a special yoga programme near Naini Lake.

Besides, the day was observed enthusiastically at several schools located across Nainital. At Bharatiya Shaheed Sainik Vidyalaya, students along with the National Service Scheme volunteers and National Cadet Corps members practised yoga. At Birla Vidya Mandir, students demonstrated various yoga postures, including Surya Namaskar, and encouraged everyone present to adopt yoga in their daily lives. The principal, Anil Sharma stated that yoga is India’s ancient and invaluable heritage, guiding the world toward a healthy lifestyle. He urged students to incorporate regular yoga practice into their daily routine.

International Yoga Day was celebrated at Sainik School Ghorakhal by 79 UK Battalion NCC, Nainital. NCC cadets participated in a mass yoga practice. The cadets practiced various yoga asanas, pranayama and meditation as per the Common Yoga Protocol.
