After the recent protest rally of Anganwadi workers against the state government regarding pending allowances along with other issues, the Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) minister, Rekha Arya transferred an amount of Rs 47.11 crore to the account of over 35,000 Anganwadi workers working across the State on Friday. This amount was transferred as the workers’ pending allowance of two months-July and August. Arya said that the department has always acknowledged the work done by Anganwadi workers and is bound to work in their interests.
The department is making consistent efforts to facilitate the work of Anganwadi workers in rural as well as in urban areas. She also appealed to all Anganwadi workers to mandatorily link their mobile numbers with their respective bank accounts to get notified about their monthly allowance through message as many workers complain to the department of not getting informed about it on time.
The Anganwadi workers said that they appreciate this move of the department and hope that they get all of their allowances on time. However, they added that they also expect the government to address their other issues like promotion issues and paying rent money for Anganwadi centres and making them beneficiaries in certain government schemes as promised by the department. They said that they have deferred their protest on the assurance of the representative of the department but they will have to resume it at a massive scale if they fail to address their issues soon as promised.
