The department of Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) will bring a proposal to provide financial aid to women and children affected by natural calamities and disasters. This proposal is meant to help them to lead a normal life after surviving disasters. The WECD minister Rekha Arya said this in a review meeting of the department on Friday. Arya said that it has been observed that children often lose their parents during natural disasters which can result in their isolation from mainstream society. She said that the department will be proposing various measures in order to help them live better lives. The minister instructed officials to come prepared with a proposal for discussion at the next meeting.
Arya discussed the progress report for the Vatsalya Yojana which is managed by WECD. She said that some beneficiaries who received a five per cent reservation from the government under Vatsalya Yojana have gained self-sufficiency. She instructed the district programme officer to create short videos of the children who are benefiting from the scheme to raise awareness among the public. Additionally, the minister suggested linking the maximum number of economically weak children with the sponsorship scheme run by the department. She instructed all district programme officers to submit proposals for the construction of district-specific security facilities, special housing and renovation of old buildings to the directorate by August 31.
