A 28-year-old woman died after she was swept away by the strong current of the river while taking photographs at Sahastradhara in Dehradun. The woman, identified as Neha Arya from Panipat, Haryana, had come to Dehradun with her friends to visit the tourist spot.
The incident took place in the Sahastradhara area under Rajpur police station on Saturday. According to police, Arya was taking photographs when she suddenly slipped and fell into the river. She was swept away by the strong waves and reached an area near Sahastradhara.
Rajpur police and SDRF teams reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. With the help of local people, the teams pulled the woman out of the river. She was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay district hospital in an ambulance, where doctors declared her dead.
Police have appealed to the public to avoid risks posed by getting close to fast flowing water at tourist spots, especially during the monsoon. The police have informed the woman’s family and kept her body in the mortuary.
