The women patrolling squad has proved to be quite effective in minimising random parking issues in the crowded areas of the city. The traffic police has collected a penalty of about Rs 7.50 lakh since the formation of the squad earlier this month to tackle the issue of random parking across the city through special clump mobile vehicles. The squad alone is taking action against about 70 vehicles on a daily basis to ensure effective traffic management in crowded areas. This was stated by the Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Akshay Konde on Friday. He said that since the formation of the squad, there has been a huge increase in the number of vehicles towed and clumped in main areas of the city on a daily basis which has certainly improved traffic and parking issues. This initiative is also impelling people to park their vehicles at designated places rather than parking randomly anywhere leading to traffic problems. The squad mainly targets the crowded places like Rajpur, Rajpur Road and Tehsil Chowk where the crowd is intense throughout the day. This initiative was taken by traffic police to empower the women by increasing the involvement of the women traffic police personnel in the works which are mostly conducted by male police personnel. He said that due to the dip in random parking issues in many areas after this initiative, the teams have also expanded its reach in other areas like Sahastradhara area to properly monitor the traffic situation. Konde said that the traffic police are making consistent efforts to improve traffic situations in the city. He said that the police have also identified about 40 places which can be used as parking spaces across the city and many of them are under process of being active in a few months.
