Protesting against the recent hike in LPG price and emerging shortage of petrol/diesel in the State, the Youth Congress staged a demonstration in Premnagar within the Cantt Assembly limits on Wednesday. The Centre and the State governments were torched in their effigies. Youth Congress leaders said that a large number of their activists participated in the agitation.
Addressing the gathering, a Youth Congress leader, Dinesh Chhettri said that inflation is spiraling as a result of the wrong policies the Centre has been pursuing. “While the common people are suffering the Centre and the State government remain mute spectators,” he added.
Echoing Chhetri, a representative of the traders associated with the Congress, Rajesh Sharma said that the rising prices of petroleum products is directly impacting the small-scale traders and retail shop owners. “The traders/retailers and the consumers alike are bearing the brunt of the spiraling transport costs,” he said.
They warned a full-blown movement across the State if the Centre and the State government do not step in and rein in the rising LPG and other petroleum products’ prices.
Among the senior leaders who took part in the agitation included Sanjay Sharma, Lal Chand Sharma and Garima Mehra Dasauni.
