Youth arrested for killing grandmother

The police arrested a man for allegedly killing his own grandmother at Tanshipur village in Manglaur area five days ago. The accused Rinki reportedly had a quarrel with his grandmother when she refused to give him money for liquor. Enraged, he allegedly slashed the old woman’s throat.
According to the police, during interrogation, the accused said that his grandmother Leelavati used to get about Rs 12,000 monthly pension after the demise of his grandfather who had retired from the Irrigation department in Saharanpur, UP. She used to give the accused about Rs 7,000 per month for his expenses apart from which he also used to ask for money from his aunt. He was addicted to alcohol due to which he was also sent to a de-addiction centre by his family in the past.
For some time now, his grandmother and aunt were not giving him any money which resulted in frequent quarrels. On the day of the incident, the aunt had gone to pick up her daughter from the school when Rinki arrived and tried to convince his grandmother to give him money. He killed after she refused to give him money. He then partially disrobed her to make it appear like a case of attempted rape. Manglaur Kotwali in-charge Rajeev Rauthan said that the accused has been arrested and the instrument used in the murder was also recovered.
