A signature campaign in support of the ‘One Nation, One Election’ initiative was launched on Saturday at the Gandhi Park gate here with youths participating enthusiastically in considerable numbers.
Addressing the gathering, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Dehradun Mahanagar president Siddharth Agrawal said that frequent elections disrupt normal public life and create inconvenience for citizens. He said holding simultaneous elections would help ensure administrative stability and smoother governance. State convener of ‘One Nation, One Election’ campaign Ramesh Gadiya said repeated elections lead to heavy financial expenditure, diverting funds that could otherwise be used for public welfare and development works. He added that simultaneous elections would result in substantial savings for the exchequer.
Programme convener and coordinator Paras Goyal said the signature drive would be expanded across college campuses, educational institutes, coaching centres and universities in the Dehradun Mahanagar area from Monday to generate wider public support.
