2-day special drive in Haldwani: 600 challans issued, 47 vehicles impounded

To curb road accidents and ensure road safety, the Regional Transport Office (Enforcement and Road Safety), Haldwani conducted a two-day special checking drive across the town and routes in nearby areas. As per the officials, 11 enforcement teams carried out intensive inspections in various parts of Haldwani and routes in Nainital, Rudrapur, Kaladhungi and Ramnagar.

During the campaign, 600 challans were issued, including 184 for heavy vehicles, 202 for two-wheelers, and 20 for school buses. Additionally, 47 vehicles were impounded for serious violations of traffic rules.

Divulging more details, the divisional transport officer, Haldwani Gurdev Singh said that 28 heavy vehicles and 33 passenger vehicles had been served challans for overloading. While 168 two-wheeler riders were fined for riding without helmets 13 were booked for triple riding. Three drivers, including one of a Kendriya Vidyalaya school bus in Haldwani, were found driving in inebriated condition and handed over to the police for further action.

The drive was led by ARTO (Enforcement)  Jitendra, Naveen Kumar Singh, Rishu Tiwari and transport tax officer Pramod Karnataka.

The DTO Gurdev Singh further said that such checking drives would be extended to Udham Singh Nagar, Kashipur, Tanakpur, Ramnagar and other areas in coming days to strengthen road safety.
