26.2 kg ovarian tumour removed from a female patient at Jollygrant Hospital

 PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

Himalayan Hospital, Jollygrant, a constituent unit of Swami Rama Himalayan University, claimed that a surgical team led by the consultant in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology,   Dr Vandana Rajput, had successfully removed a 26.2 kg ovarian tumour from a 17-year-old unmarried girl—one of the largest such tumors ever documented in Uttarakhand.

The doctors who had treated the patient said that hailing from Bhavwala, Premnagar, she had been experiencing progressive abdominal swelling for over a year along with difficulty in breathing and intestinal issues for the last four months. Following thorough diagnostic evaluation, including ultrasound and MRI, a massive abdominal tumour had been identified, they said, adding that Dr Rajput, who had 23+ years of experience in handling complex gynecological cases, had swiftly devised a minimally invasive surgical plan. The surgery had been conducted for one-and-a-half-hour and the tumour had been removed without any injury to surrounding organs or external disfigurement, preserving the patient’s future health, they further said.

The president of Swami Rama Himalayan University, Dr Vijay Dhasmana lauded the team’s effort, stating that this surgery had marked yet another chapter in Himalayan Hospital’s legacy of medical excellence and community service for patients facing complex and rare medical conditions.
