350 adolescent girls administered HPV vaccine in Dehradun

The Health department informed that 350 adolescent girls in Dehradun district have been vaccinated with the HPV vaccine so far. This information was shared by the department on Wednesday while raising awareness about the HPV vaccine among girls in grades VIII, IX and X at the Government Girls Inter College in Lakhibagh, Dehradun.

Dehradun chief medical officer Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma urged the public not to pay heed to any rumours about the vaccine and to come forward to protect adolescent girls from cervical cancer. He emphasised the importance of ensuring that adolescent girls aged 14 to 15 years in families and neighborhoods receive the vaccine. 

The district immunization officer Dr Dinesh Chauhan provided important information to adolescent girls about the significance of the HPV vaccine, its benefits and its necessity for safe health, particularly in protecting against serious diseases like cervical cancer. 

He also reported that the government is providing this vaccine free of charge to protect the health of adolescent girls. Additionally, he appealed to female teachers to encourage the vaccination of female students in schools and within the local community through teacher-parent meetings. He informed that HPV Vaccine facilities are available daily from 8AM to 8PM at the model vaccination centre established at the district hospital (Gandhi Shatabdi Eye Hospital).
