The tourists visiting Corbett National Park will soon be able to enjoy tiger sightings while riding on elephants. While informing this, the CTR director, Saket Badola said that elephant safaris would begin in the first week of December in the Dhikala and Bijrani zones of the park. “Necessary orders have already been issued by the chief wildlife warden,” he said.
Sharing further details about the upcoming facility, Badola said that two elephants would operate in the Dhikala zone while one would be deployed in the Bijrani zone. “Each elephant can carry a maximum of five tourists at a time. The fee for Indian tourists has been fixed at Rs 1,000 per person while foreign tourists will be charged Rs 3,000 per person. The elephant safaris will be conducted in two shifts — morning and evening,” he added.
Notably, the elephant safaris in Corbett remained suspended for the past six years.
With the revival of this service, the tourists have sounded excited. They said they were impatiently looking forward to availing this safari facility for tiger sighting. The locals have sounded excited, too, hoping that the revival of the long-suspended safari for tiger sightings would boost economic development of the region through generating new avenues of employment for them.
