64 food samples tested in Rishikesh ahead of Holi

Ahead of the Holi festivities, the Food Safety and Drug Administration of Uttarakhand carried out a special checking drive in Rishikesh on Wednesday. During the drive, two milk samples were found to have low milk fat while starch was found in three sweet samples.

The department carried out on-the-spot free testing of food items at sweet shops and dairies located in the main market of Rishikesh through a mobile food testing laboratory. During the drive, 64 food samples, including milk and milk products, ghee, spices and sweets, were tested free of cost. During the checking, two milk samples were found to have low milk fat, one sample of mawa was found containing sugar and starch was found in three sweet samples. 

Speaking of the drive, the senior food safety officer, Ramesh Singh informed that inspections had been conducted in Dehrakhas, Patel Nagar and nearby areas of Dehradun too. “Based on suspicion, four samples of loose mawa, loose milk, oil and gram flour were collected and sent to the food testing laboratory for further examination,” he added.
