Alleging a major scam in the computerisation of the Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) in Uttarakhand, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has demanded a high level inquiry in the issue.

In a statement, the PCC president said that the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had written a letter to the union home minister Amit Shah and demanded that the budget should be provided for the computerisation of 670 PACS of the state. He said that in response to this letter, Shah has also sent a letter to the CM in which he said that Uttarakhand has digitised more than 108 PACS and for it is spending a sum of Rs 5.60 lakhs per PACS. Mahara added that Shah in his letter said that PACS computerisation process system is available at only Rs 1.20 lakh per PACS and the Uttarakhand government should avail benefit of this.

Mahara said that Shah in his letter has mentioned that the Government of India would provide a sum of Rs 50,000 per PACS which means that the Uttarakhand government is spending a sum of Rs 6.10 Lakh per PACS. He said that the state government could have saved money by adopting the system of the government of India which incidentally is much better than being used in Uttarakhand.

Mahara said that the whole episode and the letter of the Union home minister clearly show that the public money is being wasted in Uttarakhand. Launching an attack on the State government the PCC president said that on one hand it talks about paucity of budget for development works but on the other the public funds are being misused and embezzled.  He said that as per the letter of Amit Shah it is imperative that a scam worth crores of Rupees has occurred in the computerisation of the PACS in Uttarakhand.
