Man sentenced to 20 years for sexually assaulting 14-year-old in Dehradun

The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court in Dehradun sentenced a man to 20 years in prison for abducting and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in December 2021 here on Tuesday. The court also imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on the accused Vikram.
The special judge (POCSO)/additional district judge Kusum Shani delivered the sentence on Tuesday. The court convicted Vikram under Section 5/6 of the POCSO Act. He was also sentenced under Sections 363 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code. According to the prosecutor Alpana Thapa, the girl was living with her family in a rented house where Vikram lived on the floor below. She said that the accused took the girl to his room on the night of December 22-23, 2021 and sexually assaulted her. He allegedly threatened her with serious consequences if she disclosed the incident.
The girl’s father lodged an FIR on December 25, 2021. During the trial, the victim told the court that the accused had taken her to his room and threatened her. The court relied on school records to establish that the girl was 14 years old at the time of the incident. Vikram was also given one year in prison under Section 363 and six months under Section 506.
