Minister presents Rs 29 crore compensation to Tehri dam affected families

Eligible candidates in the three-tier Panchayat elections who had more than two children before July 25, 2019 will be able to contest the elections, said the Panchayati Raj, Rural Development and Tourism minister Satpal Maharaj. The minister said this on the seventh day of his Garhwal tour after inaugurating projects and unveiling the foundation stones for various development works in the Tehri district headquarter on Saturday. The minister inaugurated and unveiled the foundation stones for development works worth Rs 13 crore, distributed cheques worth Rs 29.55 crore to 100 members of Tehri dam affected families and presented plot allotment papers to 113 persons of Raulakot on the occasion.

The minister said that the two-child norm for Panchayat election candidates has been relaxed for those who had more than two children before July 25, 2019.

The minister said that he has been making consistent efforts for compensation and rehabilitation related demands of the Tehri dam affected families. The minister also presented cheques worth Rs 29.55 crore in compensation to 100 Tehri dam affected families along with land allotment papers to 113 project affected persons on Raulakot.

Maharaj laid the foundation stones for reconstruction work on various roads costing Rs 431.12 lakh in Narendranagar and Munikireti as per the chief minister’s announcements. He inaugurated the Lambgaon-Kotalgaon-Chamiyala motor road renovated at a cost of Rs 567.50 lakh, asphaltisation of Dabra Bend to Gaujiyana motor road costing Rs 49.86 lakh, asphaltisation of Lambgaon-Kotalgaon-Chamiyala to Changora motor road costing Rs 98.54 lakh and other development works.

Tehri MLA Kishore Upadhyaya, Dhanaulti MLA Pritam Singh Panwar, district Panchayat chairperson Sona Sajwan and others were also present on the occasion.
