The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has said that the State government should solve the genuine issues of the employees of the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) who are on the path of agitation.
In a letter written to the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the PCC president has said the strike of the employees has not only resulted in revenue loss of lakhs of rupees but has also created huge problems to the people of the State. He said that the workers are demanding that the services of special category employees should be regularised, appointment on compassionate grounds should be made and purchase of new buses in the fleet of roadways should be done. They are also protesting against privatisation.
Mahara said that the federation of roadways workers had raised these genuine demands many times in the past but the State government took no cognisance. He said that this neglect forced the UTC employees to take a decision to go on a strike. The PCC president said that the State government should dispose of the genuine demands of the agitating workers.
