Authorities reopened traffic to Kedarnath via Rishikesh and Srinagar on Tuesday morning. The pilgrims were stopped on these routes on Monday due to unfavourable weather conditions in Kedarnath. The director general of police Ashok Kumar said that the pilgrims were not allowed to go to Kedarnath on Monday via Rishikesh and Srinagar as there was less space to stay due to heavy snowfall on Saturday and Sunday.
The weather was normal on Tuesday in Kedarnath considering which all routes were reopened in the morning, said the DGP. “Pilgrims were allowed to visit the Kedarnath Dham as weather conditions improved on Tuesday. We will continue to take such decisions on the basis of weather conditions of the respective areas. The police department is working on making the Char Dham Yatra convenient for all pilgrims but their safety is also a priority for us,” said Kumar. The doors of Kedarnath reopened for pilgrims on Tuesday morning.
The meteorological department has issued an alert for snowfall and rain in Kedarnath and Badrinath areas for the next seven days. Kumar said that security has been strengthened at various places in view of the weather forecast. He also appealed to the pilgrims to plan their visits to Char Dham shrines as per the weather conditions of the areas for a convenient and safe journey.
