Bridle path to Kedarnath temporarily blocked by debris from Bhairav glacier

The bridle path to Kedarnath was temporarily closed on Thursday after a fragment of the Bhairav glacier broke in the afternoon, said the Rudraprayag district disaster management officer Nandan Singh Rajwar. He said that the route was closed after the breaking of a fragment of the Bhairav glacier at 2:25 PM. He said that the route was initially closed on Wednesday evening after fragments of Bhairav and Kuber glacier broke away and blocked the path.
The National State Disaster Response Force (NDRF), District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and police personnel among others were working to remove snow for smooth movement on the route. The officials had cleared the route at Bhairav glacier but again a fragment of the glacier broke there at 2.25 PM due to which, the administration closed the route again on Thursday.
The Rudraprayag district magistrate Mayur Dixit has also appealed to the pilgrims to avoid going towards Kedarnath on foot till the route gets completely clear and asked them to be safe at the place where they currently are in view of the inclement weather. However, pilgrims can visit Kedarnath by helicopter, added the DM. According to the authorities, 1,569 persons visited Kedarnath temple on Thursday.
