The portals of the fourth among the Panch Kedar shrines- Rudranath temple were ritually reopened for the devotees at 7 AM on Saturday. A large number of devotees reached the temple as it was opened to the public for the summer.
Devotees reach Lord Rudranath’s temple after walking a distance of 22 kilometres from Sagar village in Gopeshwar area of Chamoli district. The face of lord Shiva is worshipped in the temple of lord Rudranath. The shrine is a cave temple located amidst the high altitude alpine meadow- bugyal.
Following the rains and snowfall experienced during the recent past, there is still some snow ahead of Pitru Dhar on the path to the temple. However, the conditions did not deter the enthusiasm of devotees. A group formed by the social workers of Gopeshwar town has also organised a three-day Bhandara at this remote location.
It will be recalled that the winter seat of lord Rudranath is in the temple of lord Gopinath at Gopeshwar. From here lord Rudranath’s doli left for Rudranath on May 17. The doli reached the Rudranath temple on May 19 after resting for the night at two halts. The portals of the temple were opened to the public on Saturday morning. Meanwhile, the portals of the second among the Panch Kedar temples- Madmaheshwar are slated to be reopened to the public on May 22.
