Prepare better tiger conservation plan, upload real time data on official website, submit report on status of wildlife corridors: HC
The Uttarakhand High Court has directed the State government to study the good plans of national parks in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu and then prepare a better tiger conservation plan for Uttarakhand. The court also directed that real time data on human-wildlife conflict should be uploaded on the Forest department website. It further directed that a report on the current status of the old wildlife corridors in the State should be submitted in the court within two months. The division bench of chief justice Vipin Sanghi and justice Rakesh Thapliyal issued these directions while hearing a public interest litigation seeking measures to control human-wildlife conflict in Uttarakhand. The matter will be taken up for hearing next on September 20.
According to the case details, Dehradun resident Anu Pant had filed the PIL and also stated that while hearing the matter the High Court had directed the principal secretary, forests, in November 2022 to form an expert committee for the purpose of mitigating human-wildlife conflict in the State. In this matter, the affidavit submitted by the then principal chief conservator of forests Vinod Singhal in the past mentions mainly official work on paper without any mention of work done on the ground to check human-wildlife conflict, the petitioner contended. The petitioner has requested the court for measures to check human-wildlife conflict and implementation of the orders given by the High Court in the past.
