Dengue menace continues to escalate in Doon

The menace of the vector borne disease dengue is continuing to hit the provisional State capital Dehradun and nearby areas. On Tuesday the State Health department reported 13 new cases of the disease which increased the cumulative number of patients of the disease to 343.
The Health department collected 1,137 samples of the patients for the Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) test on Tuesday. A total of 61 patients of the disease are undergoing treatment in different hospitals of the district. The department has declared an alert for the residents of, Dharampur, Ajabpur Kalan, Banjarwala, Ballupur, Race Course, Pathribag, Singal Mandi , Majra, Mothrowala, Adhat Bazaar, Badowala, Kanwali, Rishikesh, Seema Dwar, Karanpur, Niranjanpur, Shastri Nagar, Nehrugram, Mehuwala, Nawada, Turner Road and Nehru Colony areas of the city . The district vector borne diseases officer Subhash Joshi said the department is actively engaged in the source reduction activity and awareness campaign against the disease. Dengue is a viral infection spread by the mosquito Aedes Aezypti popularly known as Tiger Mosquito. The symptoms of the disease are persistent high fever, rashes, headache and pain in the joints. In the acute cases the platelets number decreases drastically which may prove fatal for the patient.
