The Tourism, Culture, Public Works and Irrigation minister Satpal Maharaj reviewed the Tehri lake ring road project, discussed the manual of the Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee and reviewed the works of the Culture department on Monday. The minister reviewed the current status of the feasibility report, demarcation, survey and land acquisition for the Tehri lakh ring road project. After the meeting, the minister informed that under this project a 234.60 kilometres long ring road will be constructed around the 42 square kilometre Tehri dam reservoir along with development of basic facilities.
Maharaj said that a population of about 84,000 people in 173 villages of the Tehri district will directly benefit from this project. In addition to this, the pilgrims undertaking the Char Dham Yatra will also be able to use this ring road as their main or alternative route. He said that the construction of the proposed ring road will not only make the Tehri dam reservoir more easily accessible for the tourists but also make the facilitating of water and adventure sports possible throughout the year. The government will also earn revenue from this, he added. The minister said that work on the feasibility survey is currently underway for this proposed project. Further, the Uttarakhand Tourism directorate is working on preparing the detailed project report for the stretch from Kothi to Dobra Chanthi bridge.
The minister also held discussion on the manual of the Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee. In addition to discussing the proposed employees manuals of the BKTC, the minister also held discussion on issues related to various posts of the committee. Later, while chairing the review of the Culture department, the minister directed the officials concerned to ensure that the pending payments to the artistes are made soon. He also directed that the grant provided for State fairs should also be provided.
The BKTC chairman Ajendra Ajay, ACEO of Tourism, Yugal Kishore Pant and other departmental offiials concerned were also present in the meetings.
