The police are still waiting for the post mortem report of 21-year-old Vinita Bhandari whose half-burnt body was found in the forest on December 17. The main accused in the case Arjun Rawat (22) was arrested by police on Sunday and is still in judicial custody, said the Tehri senior superintendent of police Navneet Singh. Bhandari was reportedly missing from her home since December 4.
It was speculated that she committed suicide after Rawat whom she was said to be having an affair with reportedly refused to get married to her. However, her family has claimed foul play and has been blaming Rawat for her death. Talking about the development in the case, Singh said that the police are also waiting for the report of the samples collected by the forensic team from the spot where the body was found besides the postmortem report. He said that according to the data and messages found on Rawat’s mobile, he had an affair with the victim. He has been in judicial custody since Sunday and had stated that Bhandari was angry at him after he refused her marriage proposal. He has claimed that he had nothing to do with her death.
The SSP said that evidence like the location of Rawat’s mobile phone was allegedly not near the spot during the estimated time of the victim’s death. However, the police are still investigating the case from all angles and interrogating all people who can help in the case directly or indirectly. He said that the post mortem report is expected to make the cause of the death of Bhandari clear. The police are expected to get the report by the weekend, the SSP added.
