With the spike in the number of the Covid sub-variant JN.1 cases across the country, Acharya Balkrishna said that the Patanjali Research Institute (PRI) has received the spike protein of the JN.1 variant Omicron from Sino Biological Lab based in China for research.  He further said that at a time when the new variant is spreading its tentacles across the country with surging cases, Patanjali could not sit idle and added that PRI has already started working on spike protein in order to find a cure for the variant- triggered virus infection.

Calling the variant a cause for concern, he said that intense research could help them find something that would arrest the spread of the virus. “We had to work hard for one and half months to collect the spike protein of the variant from China. Now, the scientists working for PRI are happy with its arrival. They have started working on it with full vigour,” Balkrishna said. Speaking on the matter, PRI principal scientist Anurag Varshney said that they will conduct an infection control trial on the spike protein through the use of Coronil.
