The Home Guard department has started providing Improvised Explosive Device (IED) training to 50 of its personnel. These selected personnel include 35 women and 15 men, the commandant general of the Home Guard department Kewal Khurana said. An IED is a type of unconventional explosive weapon that can take any form and be activated in a variety of ways. It can be made in a short time with less money and is usually used by terrorists to cause widespread damage to human lives and property. Khurana said that the selected personnel will get training on several kinds of explosive devices like time bombs and pressure bombs among others. He said that the Home Guard personnel have started getting theoretical classes on the various kinds of bombs and explosives from Tuesday.
After this, they will be given practical lessons on explosives. He also informed that an official who has been part of top level security forces like the Special Protection Group (SPG) that provides security to the Prime Minister is providing training to the selected personnel. He has also served in the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Khurana said. He stated that the department selected such personnel who are well educated and qualified to get the training in which they learn about how to identify IEDs and other explosives and what they should do further accordingly.
“We are training Home Guards to be capable of handling every situation related to various weapons, devices and combat. Many personnel are also getting training in unarmed combat and self loading rifles and pistols. The IED training is another chapter in their learning sessions to keep them prepared to tackle any situation,” Khurana added.
