Congress mocking democracy & constitutional process with pseudo session: Bhatt

Thursday, 22 February 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The Bharatiya Janata Party State president Mahendra Bhatt has said that the decision of the Congress to hold a pseudo Assembly session in the summer capital Gairsain to protest against the budget session to be held in the provisional State capital Dehradun shows the duplicity of the party. Stating that the Congress is insulting democracy and constitutional procedure with this parallel session, he said that the Congress is forming an artificial government to satisfy its ego after having been repeatedly rejected by the voters.

Replying to questions raised by media persons on Wednesday, the BJP State president said that the Congress is insulting the temple of democracy and constitutional traditions by organising such political programmes.  “The decision of the Congress party once again exposes its duplicity. On the one hand, Congress and other opposition MLAs request that the budget session of the Assembly should be held in Dehradun while on the other hand the party announces that it will stage a political drama of holding a pseudo session at Gairsain a day after the session begins in Dehradun. This decision taken solely for political gains is an attempt at mockery of the constitutional process. They are going to stage a drama to purportedly raise issues in the ‘house’ on the roads while the best platform to raise these issues is the Vidhan Sabha. It is unfortunate that the Congress MLAs have time to play politics but not to raise issues of the public in the Assembly,” Bhatt said.

He further said that it is the BJP governments which facilitated creation of Uttarakhand and making Gairsain the summer capital of the State. The development taking place in Gairsain is a sign of the BJP’s commitment to this sentiment of the people of Uttarakhand. “The decision to hold a brief session in Dehradun was taken on the requests of MLAs and considering the coming general elections. The opposition MLAs had first agreed to this but the Congress is now making an attempt to spread confusion and achieve some political gain. The government has already stated that the summer session of the Assembly will be held in Gairsain. However, the Congress is indulging in this political drama as it lacks issues to raise in the Assembly,” the BJP State president added.
