PwDs and super senior citizens can vote from home

Tuesday, 05 MARCH 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The administration will ensure that Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) and super senior citizens- people aged 80 and above, reach their respective polling booths to vote in the Lok Sabha elections. The Election Commission will also provide them the facility to cast their votes from their homes, the Dehradun district magistrate and district election officer Sonika said on Monday. She said that those wishing to vote from home by postal ballot will have to send an application to the Returning Officer (RO) of the constituency concerned through Form-12D. Such applications should reach the respective RO within five days after the announcement of the election date. She said that the commission will provide transportation to PwDs and super senior citizens without giving any scope to political parties to lure voters. For those who may want to vote from home, a polling team will be sent to their homes with a videographer and a security person. They will ensure that the voter casts a vote on the postal ballot while maintaining complete secrecy of the vote. Sonika said that there are a total of 11,480 PwD voters and 29,417 aged 80 years and above besides 80,5291 males, 74,3977 females and 76 transgenders in the district. She said that the administration has set the target to ensure at least 75 per cent voting in 14 Assembly constituencies under Tehri parliamentary constituency. She said that if any person has any issue as a voter regarding their voter IDs or incapability to vote on the election date or any other reason, they can call 1095 for assistance from the officials concerned.
