 Sunday, 02 June 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

Taking strong exception to the decision of the Tourism department to airlift a jeep to Kedarnath, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has said that the State government is violating the sanctity of Kedarnath Dham. He said that on one hand the chief secretary is issuing orders to end the VIP culture by writing a letter to the temple committee and on the other hand the government is working to establish VIP culture by sending a diesel driven jeep to Kedarnath. He said that the incident has exposed the real face and character of the government. Mahara said that apart from violating the sanctity of the place the step will help in snatching the livelihood of the local poor people engaged in carrying people on palanquins (Dandi and Kandi).

The PCC president said that the government is also engaged in snatching the rights of local stakeholders and priests by demolishing their residences in the shrine.

He said that on one hand the government has failed in operating a smooth Char Dham Yatra and on the other it has given a wrong message to the people of the country and State by airlifting a Jeep to Kedarnath. The PCC president added that the government has taken no lessons from the disaster of 2013 disaster which is a matter of great concern.
