Health dept organises sickle cell screening camps across Doon

The State Health department organised sickle cell screening and awareness camps in Dehradun to mark Sickle Cell Anaemia Awareness Day on Wednesday.
The district-level programme was held at Sherpur panchayat bhawan in the Vikasnagar block. The tribal people participated in the camps in large numbers. Over 300 people took part in the Sherpur Panchayat camp.
A total of five camps were organised at community health centres across the district in which more than 1,100 people participated. Further, 300 beneficiaries took part in the camps organised at six primary health centres in the district and 300 beneficiaries participated in the camps held at 21 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs on the day.
Sickle cell tests were conducted for 1,000 people at the camps organised to mark the day and sickle cell cards were distributed to 100 people.
The chief medical officer (CMO) of Dehradun, Dr Sanjay Jain said that sickle cell testing has commenced in all the medical units of the district with a goal of achieving 100 per cent testing in the next 15 days. “Camps are being organised to reach this target and teams will also be visiting the community to conduct tests,” he said, adding that their focus was trained on getting the tribal community people to come out and attend the camps for sickle cell testing.
