The workers of Uttarakhand Congress organised a protest in Dehradun against the Champawat gang rape incident.
The protest was held at Yamuna colony Chowk on the Chakrata road of the city. The protesters also burned the effigy of the State government to vent their anger on what they claimed were increasing cases of crime against women in the State.
The organiser of the protest, Ritesh Chhetri said the Champawat gang rape incident of the minor has shocked everyone and brought shame to the State. He said that the brutality on the 16-year-old girl in the Champawat which is the constituency of the chief minister has stirred everyone’s soul.
The chief spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress Garima Dasauni said that the incident has once again shown that the daughters are not safe in the State and law and order has completely collapsed.
She said that Ankita Bhandari has not got justice even after three years of her murder. Dasauni said that in Champawat too, the involvement of a BJP leader has been found in the crime. Dasauni said that the CM should take moral responsibility for the incident and should resign. She said that it is unfortunate that the State government is continuing to remain pathetic even as the crimes against women are on the rise in the State.
