Two die, four sustain injuries in Rudraprayag car accident

Two women died and four persons sustained injuries after the car they were travelling in fell into a gorge about 150 metres deep near Koteshwar on Chopda road in Rudraprayag on Thursday morning. All the victims belong to the same family. The officials said that the accident occurred early on Thursday at about 7 AM and the police called the search and rescue team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) after getting the information about the accident.

A team led by the sub inspector of SDRF Jitendra Singh reached the accident site along with necessary rescue equipment. The officials said that according to the locals, the victims were going to Rudraprayag from Chopda via Dungri road when suddenly the car went out of control and crashed into the gorge. The SDRF team descended down the mountainside and reached the crashed vehicle. They found six people trapped inside it, out of whom two women had died on the spot. The SDRF personnel brought the four injured persons to the main road using stretchers and sent them to the hospital by ambulance.

The injured included Buddhi Lal (71) and his son Jeetpal (50) along with his daughter-in-law Deveshwari Devi (45) and granddaughter Puja (27). The deceased women were identified as Kalpeshwari Devi (58) and Aarti (24), wife and granddaughter of Buddhi Lal respectively, the officials said. They informed that the person driving the car possibly lost control or fell asleep. The family is currently grieving so the police could not properly question the injured who are also under treatment. The police are yet to ascertain the cause of the accident, they added.
