Tributes paid to Shaila Rani Rawat & Gahtodi on first day of Vidhan Sabha monsoon session

The members of the treasury and opposition benches paid tributes to the late Kedarnath MLA Shaila Rani Rawat and former MLA of Champawat, Kailash Chandra Gahtodi on the opening day of monsoon session of Uttarakhand Assembly on Wednesday. The house paid tributes to Rawat and Gehtodi on a motion of condolence in the house.

The leader of the house, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the death of Rawat is a major loss for the State and the Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha. He said that she used to stand firmly with the people of her constituency. The CM recalled that Rawat used to remain very concerned for the development of Kedarnath constituency. He said that the State has lost a great leader and the void created by her death will be difficult to fill. 

He said that Rawat was first elected from Kedarnath Assembly seat in the year 2012 and was later re-elected from this seat in the year 2022.
The CM also expressed grief over the death of former MLA Kailash Chandra Gahtodi. He said that Gahtodi was the chairman of Forest Development Corporation at the time of his death.  Dhami termed the death of Gahtodi as a personal loss and said that he was completely dedicated to the development of Champawat. “Gahtodi was the first person who announced vacating his seat for me when I lost the Vidhan Sabha election in 2022. I can never forget his sacrifice,’’ said an emotional CM.

 The leader of opposition (LoP) in Vidhan Sabha, Yashpal Arya said that Shaila Rani Rawat has left a deep impact in the society with her dedication and hard work. He said that Rawat was a picture of simplicity and gracefulness.  Arya said that Rawat worked for strengthening the Panchayati Raj bodies and was elected to Vidhan Sabha for the first time in the year 2012 on Congress ticket.

 Arya also expressed grief at the death of former MLA Gahtodi. He said that Gahtodi was always concerned about the development of his constituency.

 Tributes were also paid to Rawat and Gahtodi by many members of Vidhan Sabha including ministers Prem Chand Agarwal, Satpal Maharaj, Dhan Singh Rawat, Subodh Uniyal, Rekha Arya and Saurabh Bahuguna and deputy leader of Congress legislature party Bhuwan Kapdi.
