With Janmashtami approaching on August 26, the city is abuzz with preparations for the festivities. Major markets such as Raja Road, Paltan Bazaar and Dhamawala are decked up with colourful idols of Lord Krishna and Radha. In addition to the idols, there is a wide variety of Lord Krishna dresses for children, attracting many visitors. Regarding this, shopkeepers have noted that this year there are new designs available for adorning the small idols of Lord Krishna. Additionally, parents are also buying dresses or their little ones as dressing up children as Krishna is also a popular trend. A shopkeeper who has decked up his shop with Janmashtami celebration items, Nanda Gupta said that he has everything in stock at his shop related to the items people want during Janmashtami, including puja items and dresses for children, among other things. Additionally, he also has dresses for Laddu Gopal, which are in high demand at this time. The range for Laddu Gopal dresses starts from Rs 100 and goes up to Rs 3,000, he said.
Another shopkeeper selling Janmashtami items, Pranay Dixit informed that the demand for lights, dresses and many other items has increased leading up to Janmashtami. He added that this year, dresses for adorning children as Lord Krishna at the market have become available in large varieties and designs. He highlighted that people have commenced buying Krishna dresses for their children to adorn them for school during Janmashtami celebrations.
The enthusiasm for celebrating Janmashtami has been witnessed among the people at the market. A local resident, Sonal Pandey said that she and her entire family have been celebrating Janmashtami together for many years. She added that they also make tableaux at home during Janmashtami. In preparation for the upcoming Janmashtami celebration, she has started shopping early and added that her shopping for the festival will continue until the day of the celebration.
