The employee organisations have rejected the Union government’s Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) for public servants. The national president of the joint federation for old pension restoration, BP Singh Rawat said that lakhs of employees covered under the New Pension Scheme (NPS) are dejected at the UPS proposed by the Union government. He categorically stated that the employees demand nothing less than the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). Rawat said that the government is working on the divide and rule policy and has divided the employees into three categories- OPS, NPS and UPS.
He also claimed that the Narendra Modi government was forced to rethink its position on NPS due to the pressure exerted by the protest of the employee organisations.
Rawat exhorted the employees to unite for the restoration of OPS and intensify their agitation. He added that with the call of ‘ Vote for OPS’ in the upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections in some States the employees will give a fitting reply to the government.
The general secretary of the State federation Sitaram Pokhriyal said that the UPS is not acceptable to the employees and soon the agitation for restoration of OPS will be intensified in the State.
The State president of national movement for restoration of OPS, Jeetmani Painyuli said that the massive rally organised by the NMOPS at Ramlila grounds in New Delhi on October 1 last year forced the government to take a decision to give pension to the employees. He said that the employees want to get the benefit of OPS where 50 percent of the last salary drawn is given as pension along with dearness allowance (DA) and other allowances. Painyuli added that the agitation of the employees for OPS will continue.
