Thursday, 29 August 2024 | PNS | PITHORAGARH

In latest news from Uttarakhand, exemplary grit of a woman Tulsi Devi in the face of a leopard ambush saved the life of a girl student Pooja along with her own life. This incident happened   at Baligaon under Gangolihat development block of Pithoragarh district. Though her courage is being warmly appreciated by the villagers there is nonetheless palpable panic. In fearful anticipation of recurrence of wild attacks, they are pressuring the forest department to capture the leopard immediately.

The beast ambushed them near their houses, but Tulsi Devi, instead of getting scared, rose up to the deathly challenge. While screaming to shoo the intruder away, she started running while taking the girl with her.  Alerted by her scream, the villagers gathered and chased the leopard away.

The gram pradhan Deepa Devi said that the leopard was being sighted around the village for the past several days. “Scared, we are not stepping out after dark. A cage must be installed to capture it,” she said.

A forest officer said that patrolling would be conducted to keep the leopard away from the village. “They have been asked to be on their guard and clear their surroundings of bushes. Further, they have been urged not to leave their children alone,” the officer added.
