The Bharatiya Janata Party has criticised the Congress party for its political activities during the recent disaster in the State. Congress’s attempt to manage political agendas during the disaster, particularly after the heavy rains in Kedarnath, was inappropriate, the state media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan said. He stated that the rescue operations, which saved thousands of lives, stand in stark contrast to the Congress’s handling of the 2013 disaster, where the then-government was criticized for its delayed response.

He asserted that the current government’s effective response to the calamity, particularly after the heavy rains in Kedarnath, demonstrated commendable coordination and efficiency. He said that the incumbent chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has been actively overseeing disaster management efforts, with 95 per cent of the state’s roads now cleared and work ongoing to open all routes. The Kedarnath pilgrimage route remains accessible despite the adverse weather. He said that in Pithoragarh’s Dharchula, rescue teams successfully evacuated 63 individuals stranded due to the disaster, with 46 from other districts or states and 17 local residents.

Chauhan highlighted the swift and courageous actions of these teams and the effective management under Dhami’s supervision and criticised Congress for focusing on political tactics, such as the Kedarnath by-election, rather than aiding disaster relief efforts or assisting affected pilgrims. He urged Congress to acknowledge the efforts of the disaster management teams rather than undermining their work.
