The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh has formed five teams to investigate the alleged rape of a young woman in Raipur area that reportedly occurred on Thursday afternoon. Singh said that a young woman in Raipur alleged that she was raped by a cab driver. Her family also filed a written complaint at the Raipur police station against three men late on Thursday. An FIr was registered Bbased on the complaint.
The SSP said, “The police checked CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding areas in the initial investigation. In the footage, the accused Abhishek was seen walking with the victim to his vehicle around noon. He then drove her to a secluded area in Kidduwala, where the sexual assault took place. The victim was dropped to the same spot after about two hours. During the journey, the accused reportedly borrowed a phone from a familiar driver to call a friend.”
Singh said that the driver, who provided the phone, stated that he knew Abhishek and confirmed the presence of a young woman in the vehicle at that time. No one else was present in the vehicle as per his statement, Singh said. “Eyewitnesses have verified the presence of the accused and his two named accomplices at different locations during the incident. The police have recorded critical witness statements and gathered key evidence related to the case,” he stated. The SSP said that further investigation, including the analysis of call records, mobile locations and CCTV camera footage, suggests that the two named suspects were not present at the crime scene.
However, the victim’s statements and further testimony have been recorded under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and will be submitted to the magistrate soon. Doctors have confirmed that the victim is in stable condition, he informed. He further added, “Based on the evidence gathered so far, legal action is being taken against Abhishek. A dedicated investigation team has been formed, including two female sub-inspectors and the special operations group will provide technical assistance. Four additional teams have also been established to collect further evidence, including more CCTV footage and witness statements. The investigation is ongoing.”
