U’khand BJP in-charge & former State Congress in- charge suffer defeats in Delhi polls

Following a thumping victory in the Delhi Assembly election, the Bharatiya Janata Party is all set to form the new government in Delhi after a gap of 27 years. However, the high profile Uttarakhand in-charge of the BJP, Dushyant Kumar Gautam, who was contesting the Karolbagh constituency as a BJP candidate suffered a defeat. He lost to Vishesh Ravi of Aam Aadmi Party by a margin of 7,430 votes. Many leaders of BJP from Uttarakhand including chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and his cabinet ministers had campaigned for Gautam.

 Similarly, former Uttarakhand in-charge of the Congress, Devendra Yadav also lost from his traditional Badli seat. Yadav, who is the president of Delhi unit of Congress party finished third behind Aahir Deepak Chaudhary of BJP and Ajesh Yadav of AAP. Yadav was the in-charge of Uttarakhand Congress till last year.

In the Delhi Assembly elections, two BJP leaders of Uttarakhand origin registered emphatic victories.

 In Mustafabad, Mohan Singh Bisht of BJP defeated Adeel Ahmad Khan of AAP by a huge margin of 17,578 votes. Bisht was shifted by the BJP from his traditional Karawal Nagar seat to Mustafabad just ahead of the elections. Similarly in Patparganj Assembly constituency, Ravindra Singh Negi of  BJP defeated the teacher turned politician Avadh Ojha by a large margin of 28,072 votes. In the last Assembly elections Negi caught attention when he lost to Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia by a thin margin.
