Portals of Kedarnath temple to open on May 2

The portals of Kedarnath temple located in Rudraprayag district will ceremonially open for public darshan at 7 AM on May 2. The date of opening the portal was decided by Teerth Purohits and scholars in the presence of the chief priest of Kedarnath, Bhimashankar Ling at Omkareshwar temple in Ukhimath on the occasion of Mahashivratri on Wednesday. Kedarnath is one among the 12 Jyotirlingas and one of the prominent Panch Kedars. The shrine at present is closed for winters and the Omkareshwar temple is the winter abode of Lord Kedar.
As per the schedule announced on Wednesday, ceremonial prayer will be held in the Omkareshwar temple on April 27 after which the Doli of the Lord Kedar will leave the temple premises for Kedarnath shrine. On April 28, the Doli will reach Guptkashi where the procession will hold a night stay. The Doli will reach Phata on April 29, Gaurikund on April 30 and will arrive in Kedarnath on May 01. The portals of the shrine will open on May 2.
With the announcement of the portal opening of Kedarnath on May 2, the schedule of the world famous Char Dham Yatra is prepared. The portals of the Badrinath temple in Chamoli district will open on May 04 while the portals of Yamunotri and Gangotri located in the Uttarkashi district will open on April 30.
