Visiting CTR gets cheaper as GST on room charges slashed

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Ramnagar

In what can be termed a good news for tourists planning a trip to the Corbett National Park, the administration of the Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR) has reduced the tax on room charges following the Union government’s decision to cut GST rates, Earlier, tourists had to pay 12 per cent GST on accommodation, but now the rate has been slashed to just five per cent. This means that visitors will enjoy jungle safari thrills at a lower cost.

Across the CTR zones, including Dhikala, Dhela and Bijrani, the GST has been slashed from Rs 480 to Rs 200 on the rooms costing Rs 4,000 per day. Similarly the GST on the rooms having charges Rs 2,000 per day has been reduced from Rs 240 to Rs 100 and on the rooms having tariff of Rs 1500, the GST will now be only Rs 75 instead of earlier 180.

Speaking of the matter, the CTR director, Saket Badola said that the reduction in the tax slab would not only provide relief to the tourists but is also expected to increase the number of visitors to the park.
