Schools ordered shut in Dehradun today amid rising heat

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE /Dehradun

The Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal ordered closure of all schools and Anganwadi centres on April 27 due to rising temperatures. Bansal issued the order after alerts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of a further rise in maximum temperatures in the district.

According to officials, temperatures are expected to remain high on Monday, with the maximum temperature likely to reach nearly 40 degrees Celsius. The administration said that such heat can cause serious health problems like heatstroke and dehydration, especially among children.

As per the order, all government, private and aided schools from classes I to XII, along with Anganwadi centres, will remain closed for the day. The decision has been taken to ensure the safety of students and staff during the rising heat. Officials have also advised people to avoid going out during peak afternoon hours, drink plenty of water and take necessary precautions to stay safe in the heat. Authorities said that the situation is being closely monitored and further steps will be taken if needed. The Education department has been instructed to ensure that all institutions follow the order strictly.
