Heat warning issued as maximum temperatures near 40 °C in plains

Even as the maximum temperature climbed five degrees above normal to 39.2 degrees Celsius in Dehradun on Sunday, the State Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow warning regarding the possibility of maximum temperatures likely to remain appreciably above normal in the plains of the State on Monday.

The centre informed on Sunday that during the past 24 hours, the maximum temperatures had remained appreciably above normal in the plains and above normal to appreciably above normal in the mountainous regions. No significant change is likely to occur in the maximum temperatures during the next one to two days in the State. However, the maximum temperatures are likely to fall by three to five degrees Celsius during the subsequent 3-4 days.

Apart from this, very light to light rain/thunderstorms/snowfall (at altitudes of 4,400 metres and above) are likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts on Monday. Dry weather is likely to prevail in the remaining districts today.

Provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a mainly clear to partly cloudy sky with the maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be about 39 degrees Celsius and 22 degrees Celsius respectively.

Meanwhile, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Sunday were 39.2 degrees Celsius and 22.5 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 39.8 degrees Celsius and 19.6 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 28.5 degrees Celsius and 14.4 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 28.5 degrees Celsius and 13.8 degrees Celsius in New Tehri.
