Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed confidence that the people of Uttarakhand will transform Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s austerity appeal into a mass movement. He said that the appeal of PM to the people of the country not only serves economic and savings purposes but is also an important step towards building a self-reliant and strong India. In an appeal to the people on Sunday, the PM had asked the people to reduce fuel expenditure, promote work from home culture, shun avoidable purchase of gold for one year and promote indigenous products.
In a message to the people of Uttarakhand on Monday, Dhami said that conserving energy resources, while keeping national interests paramount, is our collective responsibility.
He said if everyone is able to understand his or her responsibilities and is able to take small resolutions like avoiding unnecessary foreign travel, giving priority to local and indigenous products, using public transport to reduce the consumption of petrol and diesel, saving energy, avoiding the purchase of gold jewellery for a year, using natural manure instead of chemical fertilizers in farming and use edible oil judiciously, then this will be our important contribution to the country’s economy.
Dhami said that the people of Uttarakhand have always been at the forefront of national interest. “The pledge of Vocal for Local and Atmanirbhar Bharat will only succeed if every citizen contributes at their own level,’’ he said.
