Doon police intensify night checking; many detained, fined

Dehradun police questioned more than 1,000 people found roaming at night on May 10 under the Operation Prahar. Out of them, 14 suspicious persons were detained and taken to different police stations for questioning. The intense checking was carried out across the district to control crime and keep the city safe, said the senior superintendent of police, Dehradun, Pramendra Dobal. 

Police also took action against 98 people under the Police Act and slapped fines of Rs 30,500. They were warned not to roam unnecessarily at night again. The police also carried out strict vehicle checking at border check posts and internal roads across the district. A total of 910 vehicles were checked during the night drive. Action was taken against many drivers for violating traffic rules.

Police arrested 49 drivers for drunk driving and their vehicles were impounded. Another 40 vehicles were seized for rash driving, breaking traffic rules and other irregularities. Challans of 23 vehicles were sent to the court.

Apart from this, 186 vehicles were challaned under the Motor Vehicles Act. Police collected fines of Rs 1, 06,500 during the drive.

Dobal said that Operation Prahar will continue in the coming days. “All police station in-charges have been directed to continue checking suspicious persons and vehicles. This campaign is helping in maintaining law and order aside from instilling fear among criminals,” he added.
