Police warn of strict action; people criticise police
PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE /Dehradun
Upon receiving the information that four members of Nursing Ekta Manch (NEM), had climbed atop a water tank in Parade Ground, a police team led by the circle officer Swapnil Muyal reached the spot. He later said that strict action would be taken after all the members come down safely. Things took a political turn after the state president of Mahila Congress Jyoti Rautela joined the protestors.
Police were embarrassed with questions being raised about how they had managed to climb the tank.
The gates of the water tank were locked and the stairs were covered with tin sheets. People wondered how they were still able to climb it. “It means that the barricading is useless,” said a resident living near the tank.
In recent times, the area around Parade Ground has turned into a protest hotspot. These sites are banned for agitation, but no strict action has been taken by the police or administration so far.
